Nelson Monument

The 44m high obelisk was designed by David Hamilton, one of Scotland’s leading architects. It was the first of the many public monuments erected to Lord Nelson, victor of the Battle of Trafalgar. Erected only a year after the battle, the funds were raised by public subscription during the countrywide outpouring of grief which followed the death of the victorious admiral.
